Christmas Youth Musical
Bored with life in Bethlehem, Reuben, 13, sings “I Wish That I Could Move to Rome. Nothing happens here at home .” A Roman soldier offers him that chance. Horrified, his sister Sarah reminds Reuben of his Jewish heritage. Old Testament characters drop in to share their stories. Tension builds as Reuben sees God do extraordinary things through ordinary people in ordinary times and places. Ultimately, he faces a choice about his future. It’s a choice young people still face. Experiencing Reuben’s conflict invites a fresh appreciation for Jesus’ birth and its overwhelming implications.
The lively dialogue and songs were inspired by captivating poems from John Knapp’s A Pillar of Pepper and other Bible nursery rhymes, winner of the C. S. Lewis Medal.
